Parenting Black Children on Race for Positive Mental Health:

A course for caregivers raising Black children.

Course content:

Course Aims

  • To Create a community of peers who actively share a passion to empower their children on issues of race, to do further independent research and connect to like-minded parents.

  • To Coach parents to feel confident to explore practical approaches, through healthy communication about Race.

  • To Equip Black children on how to self regulate and manage their mental health focused on Race.

  • To Empower our children to be mentally healthy, courageous, and ready to talk about Race.

The course is interactive and is delivered through slides, video clips, activities, discussion and case studies which you will explore as a group to embed learning.

Who is this course for?

Parent, grandparent, caregiver and educators of Black children.

Can my spouse or partner join me?

Absolutely! We strongly recommend that any partner who would like to take the class and hop on the calls should not hesitate.

Do I have to do any reading before attending the course?

No, it is totally fine to arrive as you are. We know that you are committed and ready to embark on this learning journey as you have signed up. There will be time and space to try the practices. You can return to it whenever you feel called to it. Remember, the conversations never stop.

What are the dates for the online class?

The three modules will be delivered weekly online as of Saturday 12th March 2022, shortly after sign up you will gain access to the E-guide and actionable workbook in addition to the essential resource lists. We facilitate the online course quarterly (4 times a year) January/ April/ July and October.

Will the live group calls consist of coaching?

Yes, there will be opportunities for you to explore areas of the content that matter to you as a family. After each session, there will be opportunities for Q&A, where we will consult you individually.

Is the cost for individuals or per couple?

Your one-time payment of £300 is per person or per couple.

  • To know how to understand and identify triggers affecting your child in school, home and their immediate environment.

  • How to recognise immediate racial issues affecting your child’s mental health.

  • To explore strategies for implementing 3E’s – Educate, Empower, Engage.

Module 2: Wisdom: Values & Self Esteem

  • To provide tools to promote positive mental health.

  • How do you build self-esteem and positive view of themselves.

  • To unpack any stigma around Black mental health in children.

Module 3: Wisdom: Communication

  • To check on your own bias.

  • To set guidelines and boundaries for conversations.

  • To explore self-regulation techniques.

  • How to set safe spaces.
